Jennifer Jeanne Patterson’s 52 FIGHTS:  A Newlywed's
Confession is an unusually intimate and candid look at one
woman's real-life struggles and emotional upheavals as she
transitions from single woman to wife.  Jennifer chronicles
her internal ruminations, such as “I couldn’t help but wonder if
marriage would absorb my identity like a paper towel does a
liquid spill.”  In her journey, she learns that being a partner in
a marriage often requires one to ignore or defy all the old
rules in order to come up with a model that she can live with.

52 FIGHTS is a thoughtful look at all of the compromises
marriage requires, all of those little things that can make or
break a marriage, combining humor:

“I’ve realized that the adage, ‘Never go to bed angry,’ applies
only to women, because men just fall asleep.  I can’t sleep
next to him when I’m upset, and, as I listen to him breathe,
wonder how he can rest so easily when he should be feeling
guilty.  Finally, I get out of bed and lie down on the couch,
completely annoyed that he’s not out here when he’s the one
who is wrong.”

With more serious issues:

“Already, I’ve accidentally found pictures of his ex-girlfriends.
While I know that they are not my competition, I can’t help
feeling a little jealous of them since he kept their photos.  With
every new detail I unearth, I grow more curious.  What else is
there to uncover?  Why is he keeping this stuff?”
